May 5th was declared National Astronaut Day, the date was selected for its significance in history as the day in 1961 when Astronaut Alan Bartlett Shepard Jr. became the First American in Space, aboard the Freedom 7 Space capsule.
Fisher Pen, in honor of National Astronaut Day, released the “Astronaut Signature Pen” series fundraising event. 20 space education organizations, including HASSE and the Challenger Center, are participants. Each organization is supported by an astronaut. HASSE is supported by Dr. Leroy Chiao. Part of the proceeds to the “Astronaut Signature Pen” will go to the organization. This will be the first space pen bearing the HASSE logo.
National Astronaut Day features an inclusive #WeBelieveInAstronauts social media plan, which encourages fans to download, for free, a full set of “inspirational” Astronaut Cards, as well as send in their own pictures to be considered as part of the campaign. Astronaut and Space fans can also “enter to win” a 30-minute Skype session with an Astronaut.
